The property inspection is a very important part of your purchase. Thousands of dollars could be riding on the outcome of an inspection. The National Association of Realtors® recommends you consider the following when selecting an inspector:
- Ask exactly what the inspector does or does not inspect
- Ask what scientific instruments are used, i.e. moisture detectors, etc.
- Ask about the inspector's professional organization affiliations, education, & licensing
- Ask if the inspector is a licensed pest inspector
- Ask how many inspections the inspector has conducted and whether inspection is his or her full time job
- Ask what type of insurance the inspector carries, including liability, errors & omissions
- Ask if the inspector is involved in any other businesses, such as home repair that may represent a conflict of interest
